To dismiss a ticket in Texas with a TDLR-approved driver safety course, you will need to typically follow these steps:

  2. Request to take a course: Ask the court for permission to complete a safety course to dismiss your ticket. Gotta submit the application following their procedures.
  3. Pay upfront: Take care of all the fees, fines and tuition costs first before starting your course. You’ll have to pay even if your ticket ultimately gets dismissed. Get receipts!
  4. Pick an approved course: Choose a driver safety course authorized by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Find one that works with your schedule, like the one from MyImprov.
  5. Complete the course: Work through the course and pass any required tests or quizzes. Lots let you take it online which is super convenient.

I have a long and checkered history with defensive driving. I took my first "court invited" course at age 15 and realized immediately that there had to be a better way. Since that first experience, I have gone on to teach defensive driving classroom courses and to author four internet courses in 2 states. After nearly 25 years in the industry, I can help you find a course that will be the best fit for you.
